Curriculum Intent
Throughout the Geography curriculum at Parsonage Farm, pupils are inspired to develop curiosity and a lasting fascination with both their immediate surroundings in Rainham and the wider world. From Reception to Year 6, learning is carefully sequenced to ensure progression in knowledge, skills and understanding. Children begin by exploring their school environment, gradually extending their awareness to the local community and, by the end of Key Stage 1, securing a clear understanding of the United Kingdom and the countries that make it up.
In Key Stage 2, pupils build upon this foundation to deepen their knowledge of the UK while broadening their perspective to include Europe and, by Year 6, the Americas. Through high-quality teaching of human and physical geography, alongside purposeful fieldwork and engagement with the fieldwork cycle, pupils are equipped to ask perceptive questions, think critically and undertake meaningful enquiry.
We aim to help our pupils appreciate different cultures, communities and landscapes, while also developing a strong sense of responsibility for the world they live in. By the time they leave Parsonage Farm, children have a secure understanding of key geographical concepts and the confidence to see themselves as informed, responsible global citizens.
