Curriculum Intent
Parsonage Farm uses the iLanguages scheme of work and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, inspirational and vibrant French curriculum for KS2. Authentic videos, games and familiar tales are used to teach through 6 themed modules per year, covering the four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The scheme was chosen as the learning is clearly cyclical, each unit of each year group revises and builds on previous knowledge, as seen through short and long term plans, and intended to support non-specialist teachers. In so doing, it will always be relevant and in line with meeting national DfE requirements. Grammar, cultural and curriculum links are included in the plans, yet the scheme runs independently of other curriculum areas. Children will be taught how use bilingual dictionaries.
Lessons offer natural opportunities for building Oracy skills, rehearsing and modifying stem sentences and performing through role-play. In addition, we run a yearly French café for Year 4 and a French games afternoon for Year 3 as part of International Week celebrations. Learning a second language offers pupils the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of self, others and cultural differences. The intention is that the children become problem-solvers, confident communicators and life-long language learners.
